Tutor, Part-Time
Please Note: In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support visa applications. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
This is a part-time assignment.
Education (Minimum Requirements):
Two years of college with successful completion at the B level or above of coursework in mathematics, reading, and/or writing.
Pertinent Other:
The preferred candidate will have academic and/or experience that demonstrates the ability to tutor in all three areas of mathematics, ELA, writing, science, social studies.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of computers, internet usage, and software applications
Desire, willingness and ability to relate to a diverse population of individuals from varying educational, cultural, economic and social backgrounds
The preferred candidate will be organized, responsible, reliable, and punctual.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF DUTIES
The Tutor reports to the Associate Dean of Instructional Services and performs the following duties:
1. Provides general assistance to students outside of class who need extra help.
2. Meets with students on a one-to-one or small-group basis to assist and support students through suggesting tips, strategies, and study skills/habits that promote learning and motivate students to improve academic skills for educational success.
3. Directs students to appropriate resources such as textbooks, student notes, handouts, internet, and other educational materials that will assist students in meeting learning needs.
4. Becomes familiar with, recommends, and assists students in accessing technology based and online resources that could benefit academic learning.
5. Helps strengthen student problem solving and time management skills as they apply to student identified needs.
6. Fosters self-motivation and self-confidence in students leading to their development as successful and independent learners.
7. Promotes the value of learning.
8. Incorporates, as appropriate, any academic activities into tutoring session(s) as recommended by faculty.
9. Encourages and motivates students to continue EOC program learning.
10. Organizes, facilitates, and tracks tutorial sessions.
11. Completes all necessary paperwork as directed.
12. Maintains communications with staff and coordinators.
13. Attends meetings as requested.
14. Participates in training as directed.
15. Performs other duties as assigned
Hourly rate is: $17.00-$28.00
