RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

a. An applicant must at the time of examination and for at least four (4) months immediately prior thereto be a resident of the municipality in which appointment is to be made or any reasonable combination of municipalities both in and outside of New York State contiguous to the municipality in which appointment is to be made. Residence requirements may be suspended or reduced by the Commission in cases where recruitment difficulty makes such requirements disadvantageous to the public interest.

b. When preference in certification is given to residents of a municipality pursuant to subdivision 4-a of Section 23 of the Civil Service Law, an eligible must have been a resident of such municipality for at least four (4) months prior to the date of certification in order to be included in a certification as a resident of such municipality and must be a resident of such municipality at the time of appointment.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or possession of High School Equivalency and four years of experience in maintaining financial accounts and records, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; (OR) an equivalent combination of training and experience as noted above.
The preferred applicant will possess strong computer skills and analytical abilities.  Higher education and Banner software experience preferred but not required.  
 
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Principal Account Clerk will report to the Assistant Bursar and/or Director of Student Accounts/Bursar and will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
 
• Answer student inquiries related to registration billing and accounts, and payment transactions via email, phone and walk-ins. 
• Assistance with student registration and payment processing.
• General administrative assistance to the Assistant Bursar and Director of Student Accounts/Bursar.
• Prepare and process remote daily deposits and reconcile to daily deposit log.  Ensure that funds are recorded to proper accounts. 
• Prepare third party tuition billing for credit and non-credit courses.
• Work closely with third party sponsors to provide requested information and resolve billing issues.
• Follow up on outstanding balances owed by third party sponsors.
• Other related duties as assigned.
 
This is a full-time 12-month, 40-hour work week position with an hourly rate of $24.3240. Start date is September 14, 2026.
