Advising Specialist, Business Advisement Center

To be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must be either a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
Qualifications for Employment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree required in Business Administration or Education or related field from an accredited college or university; experience in counseling or advisement at the post-secondary level and previous experience with academic advising. Master’s Degree preferred in Business Administration or Education or related field from an accredited college or university; experience in counseling or advisement at the post-secondary level and previous experience with academic advising. Demonstrated understanding of institutional policies and procedures as they affect student academic success; demonstrated ability to interact with students, faculty and college staff. Must possess strong counseling and communication skills. Preference to candidates who have business academic advising experience or a business background.
The Advising Specialist reports to the Department Chair or his/her designee and performs the following:
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides academic advisement to students in all programs within the School of Business.
• Advises students on career objectives, transfer opportunities and program choice.
• Assists students in the selection and scheduling of courses.
• Evaluates Transfer credit in coordination with appropriate Department Chairperson.
• Advises students of the impact of scheduling decisions on financial aid and academic standing.
• Refers students to available student development and academic support resources when appropriate.
• Participates in academic activities within Academic Affairs, as appropriate.
• Maintains appropriate records of student advisement sessions.
• Provides assistance to students seeking course withdrawal, termination, cross-registration and curriculum change.
• Maintains working knowledge of college services, policies and procedures affecting the academic success of the student.
• Performs other related duties as assigned
This is an ass needed position with an hourly rate of $29.00 w/BA or $32.00 hourly w/MA
